How to Buy Stablecoins in Singapore?

By Safeheron Team

In Singapore, stablecoins are mainly bought through digital payment token (DPT) service providers licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), including trading platforms and OTC dealers. Whichever channel you use, first confirm on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory that the provider is licensed, then plan where to keep the stablecoins once you have bought them.

Which Channels Can You Use to Buy Stablecoins in Singapore?

There are two main types of service providers that buy and sell digital payment tokens for customers in Singapore: trading platforms and OTC dealers, both of which need an MAS license. Trading platforms serving retail customers must also comply with MAS consumer protection measures: since June 19, 2025, retail customers must first pass a risk awareness assessment, platforms may not offer incentives to retail customers, and the provision of financing and leveraged trading to retail customers is restricted. These measures apply only to retail customers, not to accredited investors or institutional investors.

How Do You Confirm a Channel Is Compliant?

Buying, selling or transferring stablecoins for customers in Singapore is a digital payment token service, and the provider needs a DPT license. The most direct way to check whether a provider is licensed is to search its company name in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory and confirm that the licensed entity, license type and scope of business match the entity actually providing the service. You can also check the MAS Investor Alert List, which lists unlicensed entities that may be mistaken for being regulated by MAS.

Which stablecoin you choose matters just as much. Once the MAS stablecoin framework takes effect, only licensed issuers will be able to label their tokens “MAS-regulated stablecoins”; until then, before buying, review the issuer’s reserve attestation reports and redemption terms yourself to confirm the token can be redeemed for fiat at par.

How Should You Store Stablecoins After Buying?

Stablecoins you buy can stay in your platform account under the platform’s custody, or be withdrawn to a wallet whose private keys the business controls itself, known as self-custody.

For businesses, a common approach is to keep only the balance needed for trading on the platform, move the rest to wallets the business controls, and manage them in tiers by amount: set transfer limits on hot wallets used for day-to-day payments, keep large reserves in cold wallets or wallets requiring multi-party approval, and base the split of funds between hot and cold wallets on daily outflow volumes. Before withdrawing from a platform, add the receiving address to an address whitelist and send a small test amount before transferring larger sums, to avoid sending funds to the wrong address.

Conclusion

The key to buying stablecoins in Singapore is choosing the right channel: whether it is a trading platform or an OTC dealer, first verify that it is licensed. After buying, businesses should also keep most of their funds in wallets they control, with approvals and limits in place.
